     WATER TEMP= 73.5 F at 18"

LAST READING TAKEN JUNE 23RD, 2008 AT 7:45 AM

*AVERAGE TEMPERATURE READINGS TAKEN AT 7 LOCATIONS ON THE SWIM COURSE AT 18" DEPTH ACCORDING TO USAT GUIDELINES.

Rochester Family YMCA Swim Course:  The swim will be in Foster Arend Lake, a man-made lake in NW Rochester. The temperature can fluctuate. We recommend the use of a wetsuit for this race. We will be measuring the water temperature regularly in June prior to the event and will post the results online. We will follow USAT rules for wetsuits.  A buoy line will be available to rest on if needed and will serve as a guide for the finish point, which will have a huge balloon arch. The swim course will start on the SE of the lake on the sandy beach. The course goes out and circles clockwise around the large buoys. The Sprint distance swim will turn at the bright Yellow buoys and head back to the beach. The Olympic distance swim will do a complete circle around the bright red buoys. 2 laps will be required for the Olympic distance swim. The first lap will have the swimmers returning to the north beach end and participants will run along the beach, crossing over a timing mat to log a first lap split time. The swimmers will return to the water for the second lap.  This will make for great spectating and will be exciting and fun for the participants.  *NOTE: In the event we are unable to conduct the swim portion of this event the race will become a Duathlon (RUN>BIKE>RUN). The Sprint would have a 2 mi Run/10 mi Bike/2 mi Run. The Olympic would have a 5k Run/40k Bike/5k Run.

The course turns W onto 100th St. NW/Cty Rd 12, then turns right at Minnesota Ave. heading north into Oronoco. The route takes bikers right through downtown and takes a left at 5th, heading west. Another left and across the overpass and heading south. The course turns right at 7th and heads into a residential section of Oronoco. Then heads south on 3rd toward 100th St., finally turning left and heading  east back to 18th Ave. N.W. on the same route back to Foster Arend Park. The course has a few hills and the surface has a bumpy section about a 1/2 mile long, but then a very smooth newer blacktop for most of the course.
